Exams at Dignity Hair Academy

Its November, final month for my students. It’s also assessment month.

One of the client is so happy with her hair braiding by my student , Jeeva. She then gave her a hug. Such a nice feeling to watch her expression. Luckily I manage to snap the picture in time.

Amplitude Barbershop X SFOKL

It was a rainy night. We partnered with Street Feeders Of KL also together with Dr Madhu , Syed Azmi , My Street Interview and more than hundreds of volunteers… As I lead my team of barbers, others were busy setting up their booth for medical check ,  food distribution and counseling for the homeless . Most importantly was to see the result of change , we focus a lot in conversing with the homeless community and bridge them to NGOs that can help them in finding jobs and etc. Twas a meaningful night to give haircuts together with my team, under the rain.

#HeavenOnEarth #BeAwesomeToSomebody

Two weeks ago, David Oh gave me a chance to share my personal journey of #HeavenOnEarth and #BeAwesomeToSomebody . At first I was a bit nervous . But this allow me to reflect of God’s grace that has enabled me to walk this far. When I started to pen down my journey of cutting hair , there’s just so many memories and flash back that came out of my mind.
And I just can’t stop but thanking God for every piece of the memories of my past. And God begin to tell me, you can’t see the future yet, it’s easier to look back and understand today.

I’m so grateful that many were blessed and inspired. It’s great to see more and more of young people coming together and use what they have in their hand to be a blessing to this society.

It’s been awhile since I shared something on stage and I’m still very nervous . But it’s all worth it when people begin to see that change in their heart. And that’s what I desire for this generation. Being selfless and having great passion to transform this society that we live in.

The message is clear by David Oh, he ended the sermon with the question, “What is in your hand ?”

Everyone has their own skills or ability that has great potential to be Good News. We just have to discover it and sometimes, get our hands dirty ๐Ÿ™‚

Yesterday , The Star newspaper featured me again but this time in R.age section. This time it talks more of the hair school in DignityForChildren Foundation.

Nonetheless, the whole interview process made me recall again my journey and the reporter would ask questions that I have to dig out my memories ….and to share more stories about my students.

The full article can be read here.

I was a little shocked as well because  the write up was 3 full pages with color. David Oh reminded me again, “Lex , God is enlarging you and expanding your influence more”
We are in the midst of planning and something greater is coming along for my ministry and business.

And I can’t do this without His daily grace. I’m constantly praying for more wisdom and strength to do this.

Promise Home with Nick Davis

Monday. 26th Oct. 2015.

It was my offday. Decided to ring up Iris and asked if the kids needed a haircut. True enough cus I haven’t been cutting these kids hair for awhile. So I decided to bring along my apprentice barber , Nick Davis.

This time round was different . Nick brought along his tripod and iPhone 6 to shoot his Vlog.

Check out his Vlog here.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=VxwiEyL_DGI

It feels good that this begin to inspire more people like Nick and help them see beyond self. More than just a haircut , it can bring joy to some people.

I’ve been thinking and planning a lot in expanding myself and finding ways to multiply myself. As much as I want to do more to inspire more people, I want to build a strong team as well .

I’m so thankful and grateful that God has put great people in my life to journey this with me.

Can’t wait for my next solo trip to Cambodia.

 Time for some good rest.

Brickfield

Monday.

Rushed to Brickfield to meet up with David and his team. We start off with prayer and briefing by a group of leaders.

We then were divided to few team and guided by a leader for each group.

My group consist of David Oh , me and two lady. We walk along the street in Brickfield , we saw a lot of drunk homeless…. As we try to approach one that’s lying on street and asleep, we begin to pass him some food and drinks. He woke up , saying thanks and we begin to chat more with him. A passer by stop by and discouraged us by saying the bad stuff about these homeless people….he described the homeless guy as “useless”, “waste of time to feed them” , “lazy” and some not so pleasant to the ear..

It’s tough but we refuse to debate with this passerby .. We continue to just talk to the homeless guy and spend a little more time trying to find out about him. He then allowed us to pray for him .. He needs a haircut, so we walk towards a lane where’s there few more guy that’s also looking forward for a haircut… To my surprise , I saw a few of them actually lying and resting beside a dump site … It was smelly , dirty and fill with rats , yes RATS !

My greatest fear and nightmare. My mind couldn’t comprehend how they can actually sleep there . It’s really heart broken and I’m really speechless …..

After giving them haircuts, our team proceed to an uncle that is having difficulty in walking. He has a knee problem… We prayed in faith and believe in Holy Spirit to release healing… And he immediately felt better… My faith was so enlarged seeing this happening.

I really hope our government will do something for the hygiene and curb this social issue… How many more need to sleep under such tough environment …

CSR with Maybank

Received a call by Maybank. I thought something went wrong with my account .. Then I realized they wanna invite me to partnered with them in this programme call ” Go Ahead Challenge ”

 :’D

It’s a similiar TV reality show to ” The Apprentice”

Brought my entire team , Kevin, Bryan and Arief along with me .

(from left) Arief, Bryan , Kevin and me.

It was a pretty rushed last min event and we were only told about this like 3 days ago. Basically , Maybank is giving out free foods and drinks to the public/ homeless. And we do what we do best, offer them the public a nice haircut or makeover . Something what Merdeka is all about. Celebrating diversity of ethnic , race and skin color’s differences .

before and after . haircut for this gentleman with his crazy mane.

Arief, apprentice barber at Amplitude Barbershop.

It was a meaningful day for us at Amplitude Barbershop. What a way to celebrate Merdeka this year . The background is so awesome that we could do this everyday.  It was a great experience to do this in day time and outdoor. Definitely need more wireless clipper and perhaps time to invest in a  electric power generator …

Job for the homeless offered by MobileWaiter.my

Its Sunday . 23rd August 2015.

This time I brought along my sponsor , www.MobileWaiter.my . It’s a startup company that does food delivery. MW generously donated 80pax of fried rice to the street homeless I usually go for street feeding.

sponsor of the day, MobileWaiter.my. Mr Ken (left) and ms Phoebe (right)

As usual I was greeted by some of the familiar faces of homeless . So glad that they are so comfortable with me..after much of building friendship with them through a pair of scissor .

Phoebe from www.MobileWaiter.my

This post is to share a good news particularly about this two guy. Yang and Yong ( not real name ).

After giving food to them, we sat down and talk to them . Mr Ken, the owner of MW actually sat down and eat with one of the homeless uncle.

mr Ken, eating together with the homeless uncle .

Back to Yang. I posted about him on my Instagram few months back. He was offered a job but somehow the job provider couldn’t hire him due to unknown reason. MW’s boss agreed to give him a job . His job is simple, distribute leaflets. Yang lost his ic while he was sleeping on the street. Mr Ken agreed to help him to report it and re apply for a new one.

Yang, in his early 30s. from Terengganu. This picture was taken few months back before i give him a new haircut.

On the other side , Yong who is a little bit older. In his late 50s . Yong was also offered a job . To be a lorry driver’s assistant in MW . His first day of job with a wide smile.

Yong , on his first day of work.

The boss, Mr Ken actually gave them RM5 on Sunday and told them to take a trip to Puchong by bus in the morning. True enough, Yong and Yang reached Puchong early in the morning at 9am sharp. Thank God they’re serious about this job. Mr Ken also provided them a temporary shelter by allowing them to sleep in the office.

That night , we had dinner together . Brought Yong and Yang out for a good dinner to encourage them to continue work hard and fight for their life irregardless of their past. Motivate them to stand strong on their feet even though life may be tough at times. To never give up and opportunities are everywhere if we see it through our heart , not eye. If there’s a will there’ll always be a way.

left , Yong. This is where Yong usually sleep every night . sleeping on a hard board beside a shoplot.

Yang, with his new colleagues. on his first day of work.

brought Yang and Yong out for a simple dinner to encourage and motivate them.

the guy in orange, Mr Ken. hardworking and generous guy. so much to learn from this gentleman.

At the end of the day, I can’t help but to keep praising God for allowing me to witness this . What started  as a simple desire to cut hair and build friendship with the homeless and believing in touching their lives, had turn out to be a testimony and a story that will continue to inspire others to do the same. And ultimately , is to share to the world what heaven feels like on earth. To show them a glimpse of God’s nature to them. That is to just love . Nothing else.

This is perhaps just a new beginning for both Yang and Yong. I really hope that one day they will be successful in life and do the same to help the less fortunate. This story of Yang and Yong is small success story as result of using a pair of scissor to transform and touch lives.

God has a great sense of humor when He gave me this vision. To transform and touch one’s  life through my scissor? Yes..this is just the beginning.

Hari Raya Street Feeding

It was massive.

A massive street feeding. This event was organized by StreetFeeders Of KL. A group of humble and energetic human beings…

They organized and fund raised for a big hari Raya street feeding. Many homeless were there. Close to 400ppl queing for food, drinks , get free medical check up and of course haircut.

Brought along with me David , Kevin , Bryan , Arief , Min Yang and Khim to cut hair for these homeless .

Tonight we cut hair fast n furious . It was by far , my craziest street haircut ever. The queue was long and some left due to waiting . We were late to the venue due to rain and traffic jam. Once we reach the car park of Central Market, we immediately set up our tools and once we start , it’s literally like a war zone. While the 7 of us cutting (plus 1 stranger hairstylist) , we don not know what’s happening around us. I heard people were queing and the organizer have to form a human barricade due to the people rushing for food. These people are hungry for food and drinks.

Thanks to the organizer , Gary. A cool awesome guy. They did an amazing job in organizing the entire event. Definitely will join them again and who knows, we’re probably gonna work together on something great soon.

4th week of Dignity Hair School

Time flies.

Entering the 4th week of my class here at Dignity For Children Foundation.

Many of them begin to cut and blow dry for their model. I’m glad the school  teachers are willing to be their models ๐Ÿ™‚ . Some excitingly bring their families as well for a haircut here. There’s something special about this school and the people who work here. Something magical . Just don’t know how to describe it. God is paving the way every step of this journey.

Some of the students have to share cutting the same models.

Of course to end it , we had the usual “hairy love” pic. Look forward for the next 5 months of the journey ๐Ÿ™‚

The Starย

It was first day of Raya.

While working , I received tons of messages and facebook notifications of mention and text.

I wasn’t inform about the date of the feature but Kelly (journalist) texted me right after it was published online.

Was really overwhelmed by the supports and encouragement. So glad that #HeavenOnEarth is known and more people are keen to participate in doing something more meaningful ..

Here’s the link to the online article.

In the article mentioned about my dream.. I’m believing that it shall come to pass very soon.

Had a long chat over dinner with David Oh, and he inspire and taught me a lot in bringing the reality of God to wherever we go. This is so crucial to me these days. The world have so much need and hurt. There’s no time to waste.

Bringing Heaven on earth is bringing the reality of God to this earth. You don’t have to die and then taste Heaven. May this continue to inspire many more people to use their time and talent wisely for the society.

Peace.
